Dhaka Times Desk It has been reported that the government is going to take strict measures to control the import and sale of formalin to prevent the abuse of formalin in the country as the use of formalin has spread in an unusual manner recently.

Kamal Krishna Bhattacharya, Additional Secretary (Import) of the Ministry of Commerce said, formalin trade is now free in our country, anyone can buy and sell whatever they want. Strict laws will soon be enacted to control its wholesale importation. So that people can't use this harmful material in Dedarse. He said, the ministry is planning to issue Statutory Order (SRO) for this.

Kamal Krishna Bhattacharya also said, “Last week we had a meeting with formalin importers. Moreover, we will hold a meeting with relevant experts including Dhaka University and Atomic Energy Commission to discuss measures to control the import and sale of formalin." Everything will be decided based on the recommendations of experts and a separate SRO will be issued, he told reporters.

Regarding formalin import supervision at present, he said, “The formalin import and sales supervision is very weak. We want to control the free import of such chemicals as well as their use.” The official said that initially the plan of the ministry is that the importers must take the permission of the ministry to import formalin.

It is to be noted that traders can easily use this chemical, which is deadly to human health, in various products including fish and food products as there is an opportunity to import and buy formalin in the open market. Recently, the national dailies of the country are also publishing news about formalin. In view of this, since the discussion has started in the relevant government circles, the conscious circles are hopeful.
