There is a heated debate on the introduction of a common currency between Bangladesh and India

The Dhaka Times Desk A fierce debate has arisen over the proposal of the Bangladesh-India common currency presented by the Finance Minister. The members of the parliamentary committee related to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly criticized the issue.


A dispute arose on Tuesday regarding the introduction of a common currency system between Bangladesh and India, proposed by the Finance Minister. Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, the only member of the opposition party in the committee of 20, strongly criticized the proposal of the Finance Minister. He also demanded to bring a censure motion in the parliamentary committee for this. The 15th meeting of the committee was held yesterday at Sangsad Bhawan.

Citing a reliable source of the committee, the media reported that the Finance Minister recently proposed the introduction of a single currency between the two countries at a conference in the capital of India, Delhi. The finance minister made this proposal to strengthen the trade system between the two countries.

In this regard, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon told the media that the proposal to introduce a common currency between Bangladesh and India is not acceptable under any circumstances.

The meeting was presided over by Nilufar Zafarullah, President of the Parliamentary Committee. In the meeting, the member of the committee, Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Muhammad Imaj Uddin Pramanik, Imran Ahmad, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, Nasrul Hamid and Nazma Akhtar were present.
