25 Bangladeshis trafficked through brokers held in Kashmir: ransom demanded

The Dhaka Times Desk 25 Bangladeshi youths have been imprisoned in Indian-controlled Kashmir for about 28 days. Their gang of brokers has pawned them in a dark room in Kashmir with the lure of taking Iran.

28 days ago today, 25 workers from different villages of Sunamganj, Bangladesh, traveled to Iran through India through a broker named Jadu Mian, border village of Bongaon village of Rangarchar union of Sadar upazila. However, Jadu Mian and the smuggling syndicate have detained them in a dark room at an undisclosed location in the Kashmir region of India. One of the trafficked workers, Alamgir Hossain, a youth of Barakhal village of Banglabazar Union, called his family three days ago and asked them to rescue him.

Alamgir Hossain said that he and 24 others were detained together in a dark room. The traffickers will not release them unless they pay cash. Alamgir told his family to pay money to Abu Taher of Bongaon village to free him. Only then can he be free. To free Alamgir, his relative Shamim Pasha went to Abu Taher's house with rezen money and gave him 15,000 taka in cash. Abu Taher told them that Alamgir could not be released unless another 25,000 rupees were paid.

Later, Alamgir Hossain's relative told BGB members of Bongaon border post about the incident and BGB arrested Abu Taher. Later BGB through Abu Taher strategically spoke to traffickers in Kashmir. BGB has already said that the detained Abu Taher has been handed over to the police. And the administration is taking measures for the release of those 25 Bangladeshis who were trafficked.
