BCS exam changes are coming!

The Dhaka Times Desk Public Service Commission is bringing new changes in Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination. The journey of this new system can be started only with the 35th preliminary examination to be held in the future.

Citing the Public Service Commission, it is known that the Public Works Commission has already started working with the aim of appointing 1789 officers. Soon it will be published in the form of notification. In the new system, the preliminary examination will be of 300 marks which was earlier of 100 marks. The duration of this exam of 300 marks will be three hours. According to the information of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, the recruitment process of the recommended cadres through the 33rd BCS examination in the financial year 2013-14 has been finalized. State Minister for Public Administration Begum Ismat Ara Sadeq raised this issue in response to a question from the National Assembly last Sunday.

New rules of BCS exam at a glance:

As per the new rules, the 35th BCS preliminary exam will be held for 300 marks of three hours duration. Earlier the 100 marks exam was held for 1 hour. Later those who will participate in the BCS written exam will have to participate in the written exam of 200 marks for the first paper of each subject. The time will be three hours as before. But previously each subject was worth 100 marks and time duration was three hours. Even though the standard of marks has increased in the current system, PSC has kept the time to three hours. Also, in the proposed new system, the preliminary examination fee has been fixed at Rs 700, which was Rs 500 earlier. For tribals, this fee has been fixed at Rs 250 from Rs 50 earlier. In the current new system, the minimum standard of oral examination has been fixed at 50 per cent as against 40 per cent earlier.

কর্মকমিশনের নতুন এই ব্যবস্থার বিষয়ে জনপ্রশাসন মন্ত্রণালয়ের কাছে জানতে চাইলে তারা জানান, নতুন প্রস্তাবটি নিয়ে তারা কাজ করছেন। এটি যাচাই বাছাইয়ের পর মন্ত্রীপরিষদের অনুমোদনের জন্য পাঠানো হবে সেখান থেকে এটি যাবে প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সম্মতির জন্য, এরপর রাষ্ট্রপতির স্বীকৃতিক্রমে এই বিষয়ে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হবে। চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্তের পর কর্মকমিশন নিয়োগের জন্য বিজ্ঞপ্তি আকারে জারি করবে”।

Although the Commission has brought changes in its examination system, it has not recommended any change in its quota system. As a result, the aforementioned quota system will remain in place in the new system.
