Update News: Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and 6 bodies recovered

The Dhaka Times Desk The body of the missing Narayanganj panel mayor was recovered from Shitalakshma river. 6 dead bodies were recovered from Shitalakshma river this afternoon.

Narayanganj City Corporation Panel Mayor Councilor Nazrul Islam was found missing among the recovered bodies. 5 dead bodies were recovered from Char Dhaleswari. Nazrul Islam was identified among them.

Meanwhile, traffic has been stopped from Jatrabari to Kanchpur Bridge due to this rescue operation.

According to the latest news, the bodies of 6 people have been recovered. The body of the missing panel mayor Nazrul Islam was recovered from Shitalakshya river with his hands and feet tied. The body was found floating in the river around noon on Wednesday and the police was informed. Police first recovered 3 bodies. Among them, the body of Nazrul Islam was identified. Later, 3 more bodies were recovered, totaling 6 bodies. Later they got to know each other.

The panel identified the body of Mayor Nazrul's brother Abdus Salam and wife Selina Islam Beauty Nazrul. Apart from this, his younger brother Ripon identified the body of Swapan who was kidnapped along with Nazrul. Another kidnapped Tajul Islam's body was identified by his sister Shireen Akhtar. The body of abducted lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and the body of driver Ibrahim were also identified. The bodies were recovered in a semi-decomposed state.

Highway blockade-vandalism

Meanwhile, when the news of the recovery of the body spread, the supporters of Nazrul Islam got excited and vandalized the car in the signboard area. Agitated people attacked a petrol pump in the area. However, the extent of the damage is not known. Traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong route has been stopped. Police are trying to normalize the situation.

It is to be noted that 5 people including Narayanganj City Corporation's 2nd Ward Councilor and Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam were picked up by law enforcement forces on Sunday, April 27. On the same day, two people including lawyer Chandan Sarkar were abducted from the court yard.
