Country-made smartphone "OK" is coming to the market of Bangladesh

The Dhaka Times Desk স্মার্টফোনের একটি বড় বাজার রয়েছে আমাদের দেশে। এই স্মার্টফোনের বাজারটির প্রয়োজন একটি পরিমিত দামের স্মার্টফোন যেন তা সকলের নাগালের মাঝে থাকে। এই লক্ষ্যে এমনি একটি স্মার্টফোন বাজারে আসছে যা আমাদের দেশেই তৈরি করা হয়েছে। “ওকে” মোবাইল নামের এই স্মার্টফোনটি তৈরিতে সহায়তা করছে সরকারি টেলিকম শিল্প সংস্থা।

Smartphones have taken over the mobile phone market quite well in recent times. Apple and Samsung will be the frontrunners in this market. But beyond that, China's technology market is the one to remember about the proliferation of smartphones in third world countries.
Apple's iPhone dominates the market and Samsung's Android smartphone is a big deal. But in terms of price, it was out of reach in many countries of the world. In this case, China's technology market created a competitive market by introducing smartphones to the market in cheaper form. There are currently 114 million mobile phone users in Bangladesh. A large part of them are currently leaning towards smartphones, the rest are also gradually leaning towards smartphones.

বাংলাদেশ টেলিফোন শিল্প সংস্থা লিমিটেড বা টেসিস এর সহযোগিতায় ইন্ডিগো নামের একটি কোম্পানী এই স্মার্টফোনটি তৈরি করেছে। ইতোমধ্যে এই নির্মাণ প্রক্রিয়া প্রায় সম্পন্ন হতে চলেছে। বিভিন্ন সুত্রে জানা গিয়েছে এই স্মার্টফোনটি বাজারে আসতে পারে এই বছরের আগস্ট কিংবা সেপ্টেম্বর মাসে। এই স্মার্টফোনটি নির্মাণে প্রয়োজনীয় কারখানা এবং ব্যবস্থাপনার কাজ প্রায় সম্পন্ন হয়ে গিয়েছে। এই স্মার্টফোনটি বাজারে ছাড়া হবে ‘ওকে’ মোবাইল ব্র্যান্ড হিসেবে। স্মার্টফোন উৎপাদনের জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় প্লান্ট নির্মাণের জন্য ইন্ডিগো কোম্পানি টেসিস বা টেলিফোন শিল্প সংস্থা থেকে স্পেস ভাড়া নিয়েছে। ইন্ডিগো কোম্পানী স্মার্টফোন নির্মাণের প্রয়োজনীয় প্রযুক্তি আনছে চীন থেকে এবং এই স্মার্টফোনের গঠন বৈশিষ্ট্য হবে আমেরিকার বিখ্যাত মোবাইল ব্র্যান্ড ওকে মোবাইলের মতো। তাই একে বাংলাদেশের বাজারে ওকে মোবাইল নামেই ব্র্যান্ডিং করা হবে। এই স্মার্টফোনটি বাজারে আসলে তা হবে বাংলাদেশেই তৈরি প্রথম স্মার্টফোন। এর আগে আরো কিছু কোম্পানী বাংলাদেশের বাজারে স্মার্টফোন ছাড়লেও এগুলো কোনটাই এই দেশে তৈরি হয়নি।

Jasim Uddin, Managing Director of Indigo Group, said that six Chinese engineers have already started working on this project. He also said that in the initial phase five different types of mobile handsets will be released in the market whose prices have been fixed at Tk 1200 to Tk 1400. Among them, the price of 3G smartphone sets will be Rs. 3800. Besides, the highest priced handset will be Rs. 7000. Each phone will be dual-SIM and have a 2- to 10-megapixel camera. OK brand handsets are already available in the Chinese market.

The Bangladesh Telephone Industry Association had previously announced tenders for manufacturing low-cost handsets many times but did not receive a suitable response. Indigo Group came forward in this tender for the fourth time. On February 27, the Indigo Group was handed over space inside the industrial complex to set up a factory to manufacture its mobile handsets. It should be noted that Bangladesh Telephone Industry Corporation has previously produced and released low-cost dual-laptops in the market. But those laptops could not be accepted in the market due to various mechanical defects.
