The Dhaka Times Desk BCB has appointed Lankan Chandika Hathurusinghe as the new coach for the Bangladesh national cricket team. The announcement was made officially by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday.
Chandika Hathurusingha BCB has signed an initial contract with him for two years. According to the contract, Hathurusinghe will start working as the coach of Bangladesh from July 1. However, before the Indian team's tour of Bangladesh in June, BCB requested him to take charge. India will come to Bangladesh to play a three-match ODI series on June 13.
Meanwhile, BCB president Nazmul Hasan said, "We requested him to come earlier as he is visiting India in June. He will come by June 10 to be with us for the India series."
BCB has kept the matter secret about the exact salary of the new coach. When asked by journalists, the board president only said, let it be a secret now. He also said, “Expert coaches are being sought for pace, spin, fielding and batting. We are talking to a few; But none has been finalised. But we are yet to start talking to any expert spin bowling coach."
Earlier, Hathurusinghe joined New South Wales as an assistant coach in September 2012 He was the head coach of Sydney Thunder before joining the Bangladesh team
The board president said about the new coach, “He is aware of the wickets of the subcontinent. Played in the Sri Lankan national team, also worked there. Worked in Australia for quite some time. We felt that with the upcoming World Cup in Australia, such a combination would be good for us."
Meanwhile, another Sri Lankan Mario Villavarayan has signed a two-year contract as the trainer of the Bangladesh national team. He was doing today as a trainer of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
