The Dhaka Times Desk Narendra Damordas Modi was sworn in as the 15th Prime Minister of India. Yesterday, Monday at 6:10 Indian local time, President Pranab Mukherjee recited the oath in a grand ceremony organized in the open courtyard of President Bhavan.
In that swearing-in ceremony, Narendra Modi and the members of the new cabinet of his government were present in this swearing-in ceremony. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering, Nepal Prime Minister Shushil Koirala, Maldives President Abdullah Yameen and other world leaders were invited as representatives of Bangladesh Prime Minister in the event. The event was attended by former ministers of India, politicians, silver screen crew and dignitaries. In total, about 4 thousand guests joined the event.
Among the dignitaries of India, former President APJ Abdul Kalam, Pratibha Patil, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and several top leaders of the party were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Meanwhile, Narendra Modi, in his first message after assuming office as Prime Minister, pledged to write the manuscript of a glorious India with everyone. He vowed to keep the promise made in the BJP's election manifesto to put more emphasis on small government and good governance.
It is to be noted that after Narendra Modi's oath, BJP president Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj took oath as foreign minister and 44 ministers took oath yesterday.
