It was initially reported that at least 10 people, including children, were killed and half a hundred were injured in a clash between Pakistani Biharis who were stuck with worshipers in Mirpur's Kalshi over the burning of candles on the holy Shabbat. However, the police did not confirm the death of 10 people.

Police are trying to bring the situation under control by firing rubber bullets and tear gas shells. Clashes have continued intermittently since Saturday morning till the writing of this report.

Locals complained that 10 people including children were burnt to death when Bihari Colony was set on fire at one stage of the conflict. On the other hand, at least half a hundred others were injured in the clashes between the two sides and the rubber bullets of the police. 10 injured people have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Among the injured, Aslam (48), Badr Uddin (45) and his son Arju (16) are said to be in critical condition.

In the details of the incident, local residents told The Dhaka Times that when the Biharis set off firecrackers at night, there was a protest from the local mosque. Despite being informed about the government regulations, the youths are still indulging in fireworks. Instead they throw cocktails. Early in the morning, the youths started to set off fireworks again. After the Fajr prayer, the mosque's worshipers protested and the clash started. At this time the Bihari village attached to Kalsi was set on fire. Later the police came and tried to control the situation.
