The Dhaka Times Desk Honey is a natural liquid with high medicinal properties. Honey is a pure sweet food provided by nature, which is much sweeter than sugar. Honey is one of the food ingredients that never spoils. But honey in the market is mostly adulterated. Let's know how to recognize pure honey.
1. Honey will never have a bad smell. Pure honey will smell sweet and attractive. The taste of honey will be sweet, without any bitterness. Moreover, while consuming this honey, you will feel a sweet smell in your nose. If you find such a bitter smell in the honey available in the market or if the taste of the honey is a little bitter, then you will know that it is not pure honey.
2. Sugar can accumulate in honey if left at home for some time. But if you put it in hot water with the honey pot for a while, then the sugar will melt and the honey will return to normal. This will not be the case with fake honey. The grains of pure honey are very large. Which does not look like a normal sugar granule. Then you can try this test if you see that the sugar grains are not liquid then you know it is not pure honey.
3. Take some water in a glass or bowl, add a spoon of honey in it. If honey mixes with water, then you know that it must be fake. Real honey is much denser than water, so it doesn't mix easily. Even if you don't stir it, the honey will not mix with the water even after 2 or 3 hours. Real honey is high in lipids, whereas fake honey is high in sugars which are carbohydrates.
4. Take a candle and dip the base of the candle well in honey. Now try to light it with fire. If it burns, then you will know that the honey is pure. And if it does not burn, understand that water is mixed with honey. As mentioned earlier, pure honey is rich in lipids, which helps in keeping the fire burning.
5. Take a piece of blotting paper, put few drops of honey on it. If the paper absorbs it completely, you know the honey is not pure. Or apply honey on a piece of white cloth. Keep for half an hour. Then wash it off with water. If the stain remains, you know the honey is not pure. Blotting paper cannot absorb lipids because lipids are hydrophobic. And the amount of lipids in pure honey is high.
6. During the winter days, pure honey becomes granulated. Much like coconut oil and dogs never eat pure honey. If you give honey to a dog and he eats it, you know the honey is not pure. Dogs like sweet treats but honey has a natural flavor that dogs don't like.
