According to media sources, FIFA, the highest governing body of football, has banned Nigeria from international competitions as a protest against the government's intervention due to complications related to players' bonuses. The ban was originally imposed by the Nigerian government after a leader of the country's football federation was expelled.
FIFA said on Wednesday that this ban will be implemented soon. Due to this ban, the Nigerian team and board will not be able to participate in any international games and related meetings.
However, FIFA has given an ultimatum till July 15 to resolve the issue. Otherwise, they will be barred from the U-20 World Cup in Canada in August.
It is known that after returning home after participating in the World Cup, the president of the Football Federation, Aminu Migari, was removed from his duties and arrested by the police of that country. The federation has also been blamed by the government for putting the country in an awkward situation over the players' dues. The government of the country also issued a circular through the Ministry of Sports for the new president of the Football Federation.
It is said that FIFA has taken this step in accordance with the rules of protecting its 209 members from third party interference and political outrage and FIFA's sense of responsibility.
It is to be noted that it has been clearly stated by FIFA that if this ban is withdrawn, then this ban will also be lifted.
