The Dhaka Times Desk Religious beliefs are being unfairly interfered with in China. The Chinese government previously banned Muslims from fasting in China. This time, various international media have reported that Muslims are being forced to break their fast.
Muslim students in China are being forced to eat with teachers to make sure they are fasting, the BBC reported on Friday, citing Muslim students. At the same time, if they fast, water or any other water is forced into their mouths.
The students of a university in Xinjiang province also said that if someone refuses to eat, he has to face punishment.
Meanwhile, some students said that the college authorities are institutionally preventing Muslim students from fasting. It has been informed from the college that if the students keep fast, they will be deprived of the certificate.
"If you want a normal life here, it's better not to fast," said a student on condition of anonymity. If you fast, you will have to endure various deprivations. Now what do you choose? Religion, or living in peace?
By the way, this is not the first time that the government has gone overboard with fasting in China. Since a few years ago, the ruling communist government in China has been imposing restrictions on fasting in the whole of China, including this region.
Although Muslims are a minority in China, there are many Muslims in the Xinjiang region. Most of them belong to the Uighur community. Uyghurs have long been at loggerheads with the Chinese government over interference in their religious practices.
