The Dhaka Times Desk Another six million metric tons of coal production will be possible in 5 years from Dinajpur Bara Pukuria coal mine. Coal production is currently underway from two parts of the mine.
The mining authority has informed that more than 2000 million metric tons can be produced out of the 33 million metric tons of coal reserves discovered in the country. But a million metric tons of coal can be mined every year. And all of it is coming from Dinajpur coal mine. The mining authorities have decided to produce another six million tons of coal from this mine in the coming year.
At present only coal is being extracted from the middle of the mine. Coal mining will be started soon from two more sections of the mine. The managing director of the mine said we are doing miles in Central. Due to high temperature in south area, it is not possible to extract coal from there. But we are developing some methods to produce from there as well. Drilling showed that there is less depth of coal on the north side of the coal mine. So coal will be produced freely from there. Meanwhile, the authority has not yet surveyed the environmental impact of coal production in this manner. Coal at Dargin lies at a depth of 200 meters. At present the coal demand is about six large metric tons per year. And this demand is being met with imported coal. In 2030, coal demand will be 26 million metric tons per year.
