The British visa program of Bangladeshis is being wrapped up in India

The Dhaka Times Desk All visa-related activities for UK expatriates and those wishing to travel to Britain from Bangladesh will no longer be conducted from Dhaka. According to British Embassy sources, this visa process will be completed in New Delhi instead of Dhaka. This decision of the British government will be effective from next September.

Visa applications for Bangladeshis will not be processed from the British High Commission in Dhaka. All documents of visa applicants from Bangladesh to Britain will be sent to New Delhi for verification. And all decisions regarding the visa of the applicant will be taken in Delhi.

It is assumed that this initiative of Britain is to reduce the cost of visa-related work. Already, 39 officials and employees have been laid off from Bangladesh's Dhaka and Sylhet embassies. Talking to Narayan Chakraborty, Information Officer of the British High Commission in Dhaka, he admitted about the retrenchment. However, he did not say anything clear about the transfer of the High Commission. He said, we ourselves have thought about how much time the work related to the visa will take. But we have to accept what the speed will be. All other documents except passport will be sent to Delhi by courier service for verification. All decisions will be taken from the British High Commission in Delhi.

It should be noted that the British High Commission started operations in Dhaka in 1991. Since then, the Commission has rendered the service to the general public very efficiently. However, Bangladeshis will no longer get this service in their own country from September, they will have to look at Delhi's green signal.
