The Dhaka Times Desk Keeping ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, laccha semai manufacturing factories have been established in the bordering upazilas of Dinajpur. In these factories laccha semai is made by making yeast in unstable environment.
The most frightening thing is that in addition to toxic oil and dyes, various substances are used in the manufacture of these semai, which are very harmful to the human body. Recently, when these news were published in various newspapers and TV channels of the country, the administration shook. The local administration is not able to remedy it even by carrying out raids.
There is no way to understand by looking at the attractively wrapped, beautiful lachcha, apart from toxic oils and dyes, various substances are used that are very harmful to the human body. In Dinajpur's South Kotyali, Sikdarhat, Phulbari, Biral, Birampur, Hakimpur-Hili, Parvatipur and bordering upazilas, these laccha semai manufacturing factories are going on in the name of laccha production, public health destruction activities. The flour, oil, dyes that are mixed in making semai are all toxic ingredients.
Dough making yeast is working in unsanitary environment. This is how khamira is made by treading with feet. Most of these factories do not have BSTI approval. Lachha semai is being made by hanging signboards prohibiting entry from outside the factory or locking the gate or closing the gate. In the Sikdar Hat area of Dinajpur South Kotali, Rajjab Lachcha Semai making factory was found to be in a bad condition. This factory does not have any kind of license. Lacha making work is going on in unhygienic and dirty environment. Not only Rajjab Lachcha, most of Dinajpur's karkhakas are going on to make Lachha by treading with their feet.
However, in this regard, Saifullah, the president of Bakeri Owners' Association, said that laccha is being made by trampling on the traditional method. We want to exclude these. So many people are now making healthy laccha semai with machines.
We also want the administration to take strict action against those who are making lachcha in unhygienic environment without BSTI approval. We want the cooperation of the administration in this regard. So that illegal laccha semai manufacturing factories are closed. I have given the list of illegal Semai manufacturing factories to the Deputy Commissioner.
Dinajpur district health department said that these lachas made of harmful ingredients in these illegal factories are deadly. Acting Civil Surgeon of the district. Mastura Begum said that people are suffering from various complex diseases by eating these laccha semai made of various ingredients that are harmful to the human body in addition to toxic oil and dyes in an unhealthy environment. People are suffering from stomach pain, gastritis, ulcer, cancer and kidney disease after eating these lachchas.
