The Dhaka Times Desk Floods have occurred in some districts. Teesta water is flowing above danger level. Thousands of people are stuck in water.
This flood occurred due to the hill slope coming down from the upstream. Due to which the Teesta river is flooded. Teesta water has flowed above the danger level from Thursday night to last Saturday night. Due to which the people of large areas of Gangachara Upazila of Rangpur have become waterlogged. There are about 25 thousand families under water. On the other hand, about 10,000 families in Dimla and Jaldhaka upazilas of Nilphamari district have become waterlogged. Thousands of hectares of Aman paddy fields in these areas have been submerged in flood water. A red alert has been issued in the Dalia-Tista barrage area of Dimla as Teesta water has flowed 38 cm above the danger level since Friday night. According to media sources, Teesta river water flowed 10 cm above the danger level yesterday at 8 pm on Saturday.
10,000 people have been trapped in Lalmonirhat due to continuous rise in Teesta water for the last two days. Sonahat railway bridge is threatened by the collapse of Dudhkumar river in Bhurungamari upazila in Lalmonirhat. Rail communication can be interrupted at any time.
On the other hand, the water level of Yamuna river continues to rise due to 3 days of continuous rain across the country. At least 10 villages in Chauhali and Enayetpur of Sirajganj have been affected by floods. It has been reported that about 20,000 looms in Enayetpur have been completely shut down due to continuous rain. Many people are getting stuck in water in other areas including Sylhet. Floods have occurred in different places due to the increase of water in different rivers due to rains and landslides. Surma river flowed 11 cm above the danger level at Kanaighat in Sylhet and 45 cm at Sunamganj on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the price of daily necessities has increased due to floods in various parts of the country due to landslides. The prices of raw vegetables, especially raw chillies, have increased abnormally. At present, green chillies are being sold at the rate of Tk 150 per kg in the capital Dhaka. Prices are expected to rise further if the flooding continues.
