Sharidiya Durgotsav is being organized across the country

The Dhaka Times Desk Sharadiya Durgotsava, the biggest festival of Hindus is approaching. The work of making idols is going on all over the country. The work of idol making is progressing in the spirit of the festival.

Durgatinashini Mahamaya 'Maa Durga' is returning to death from heaven on the autumn festival after a year to deliver the immortal message of peace, equality and brotherhood. Goddess Mahamaya is coming to this mortal world in response to the call of the devotees. Every year Durgatinashini Devi Durga appears among the devotees to protect the saints, kill the demons and establish religion.

Goddess Durga rides on a raft of white autumn clouds to bring peace to the world. And so the organizers are having a busy time to welcome Dasabhuja. Idol artists are spending a restless time to make all the arrangements of the organizers successful. Clay and straw dolls will become Jagaddhatri forms with the graceful strokes of the idol artists' skillful brushes. After that, the 5-day long Autumn Durgotsava will begin with the chanting of the priest's mantra to the beat of the dhaka band at the time of Bodhan.

According to history, about 5 thousand years ago, goddess was worshiped in Harappa in Punjab and Mohenjodaro in Sindh. Lord Krishna himself also performed this puja. In the 15th century, the king of Srihatta (now Sylhet) performed Durga Puja to the first Ganesha idol. In 16th century - King Kangsnarayan of Rajshahi region performed Durga Puja. Eighteenth century Nadia king Krishnachandra performed Durga Puja. Thus Durgotsava was celebrated by kings, landlords, financiers and rich people for a long time. And the spectators of this joy were ordinary Hindus. In the 20th century, Durgotsava became universal. Durga Puja gradually became the main festival of Sanatan Bengali Hindus.

Incidentally, Mahanavami and Vijaya Dashami of Sharadiya Durga Puja will be held on the same day this year. According to the traditional calendar, Durga Puja will begin on the evening of September 29 - with the Bodhan of the Goddess, according to the Bangladesh Puja Celebrations Council. Then Shasthi on 30th September, Mahasaptami on 1st October, Mahashtami on 2nd October and Mahanavami and Vijaya Dashami will be held on the same day on 3rd October. This year's Durgotsavam will end with the Vijaya procession in the afternoon and idol worship in the evening on October 3.
