The Dhaka Times Desk Today marks the first day of a two-day strike demanding the immediate release of Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Amir Delawar Hossain Saeedee, accused of war crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment. However, this strike is going on without any picketing!
With no Jamaat-Shibir activity in the capital, police and other security personnel were seen sitting silently at road junctions. This hartal which started from 6 am will continue till 6 am tomorrow Friday. There will also be a strike next Sunday.
From this Thursday morning, Jamaat-Shibir picketing was not seen anywhere in different areas of the capital. Rampura, Badda, Malibagh, Gulshan, Banani, Mohakhali, Mirpur, Kachukshet and many other areas of the capital were not seen anywhere in support of the Jamaat-Shibir procession. On the other hand, the government party leaders and workers marched at different points of the capital to prevent the strike.
CNG and some minibuses are running in the capital. However, no long-distance bus left. The train left as usual. However, the private car was not seen running. Local shops are open but big markets are closed. Jamaat-Shibir marches were held in different areas of the country. However, police clashed with the marchers from many places. The police also made an arrest.
