According to media reports, the court gave this verdict yesterday against him in a case 18 years ago for keeping illegal assets of 1 million dollars.
Due to this verdict, Jayalalitha will have to resign as Chief Minister along with her imprisonment, lawyers said. However, in response to the verdict, Jayalalithaa's party AIDM staged protests in various parts of Tamil Nadu.
It should be noted that in various countries of the world, while in power, jails and fines are seen. Only Bangladesh is an exception. In Bangladesh there is no precedent of jail or fine even if there is a case or a case against any ruling minister.
