The name of this island is North Brother Island. A recent reddit user came across the island while kayaking by and was shocked. He took pictures of the island's interior and uploaded it to Reddit.
North Brother Island is located between Brooks and Queens in New York City.
The island is believed to have been established in 1885. Originally a hospital was established here.
Epidemic cases like typhoid and smallpox were kept in this hospital.
In 1950 it was converted into a drug rehabilitation center. Especially those who were addicted to heroin.
In 1963 the entire island was abandoned. The interesting thing is that even though the face of New York has changed, no development has been done on this island as if it is a death place.
An attempt was made to sell the island in 1970 but no one was interested in buying it.
Until the 1980s people thought it was an island used as a prison.
The island's main building houses various artworks of heroin addicts.
The day the island was abandoned, everyone left leaving things as they were.
Several bullet holes on one of the island's doors add to the mystery surrounding the island.
