Even today, the country's women workers are victims of discrimination!

The Dhaka Times Desk Just a few days ago, International Women's Day was celebrated. Bangladesh is also united with the people of the world in realizing women's rights. But still the women workers of this country are victims of discrimination. They are getting the same wages as men!

Women workers in different regions of the country have been suffering from wage discrimination for years. Even though they do the same manual work as men in the same workplace, they are subjected to great discrimination in terms of remuneration. The life and livelihood struggle of the women workers is being forced with irony and obstacles. The implementation of the issue of equal rights for women in progressive women's policies is almost absent. Among the working women in different regions of the country, many are working as agricultural and rice paddy workers. Many women workers are working in various jobs along with men. Even though they work equally, these women workers are discriminated against in getting wages.

Aduri Begum, a regular worker in a paddy field in the northern region, said that like male workers, I do all the work starting from stepping in the paddy and sweeping the paddies every day. And during wages we get half the wages of men. The women agricultural workers said that according to the type of work, the male workers engaged in agricultural work work for a daily wage of Tk 250 to 300. The same work is done by women workers for only 100 to 150 taka. Their question is why this discrimination?

They also said that they accepted this unfair and unreasonable rule due to the urge of livelihood. Many tribal women workers are directly involved in agricultural production in various areas of northern region. They work from planting, tending and threshing paddy to building and tending vegetable crops. These tribal women workers also play a direct role in special marketing. Still they face discrimination. They are paid less wages than ordinary women workers.

These women are being denied their fair wages despite doing manual labor. But who will guarantee them? Who will come forward next to them. Even though these women workers know about the discrimination, they continue to work under some kind of compulsion. Although the role of these women workers in various developmental activities including the agricultural sector of the country is a special contribution, it is not being taken into consideration. These women workers are hostage to a class of profiteers. Because if you talk about wages, you will lose your job. And then they have no choice but to pass the day without eating. And so the women workers of our country are forced to accept this discriminatory behavior. Let's bring the theme of International Women's Day to the society and let us all strive for the real rights of women.
