Professor Shahed Ali, an active soldier of the language movement and an immortal poet of Bengali literature. This talented poet was born on May 26, 1925 in Mahmudpur village of South Sripur Union of Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj. He passed away on November 6, 2001. He was alone,
Journalist, writer, Islamic thinker, translator and researcher. Once his story was included in the textbook list of Bengali literature of colleges and universities, but now it is missing from the textbook list due to mysterious reasons. Among the short storytellers we have found among the Bengali Muslims, Shahed Ali of the forties is remarkable in many respects. But sadly it is true that he has not got his rightful seat till date. What we should read and appreciate about Shahed Ali above all is that he is truly a self-representing figure of Bengali Muslim life in East Bengal.

The daily tension of human life with the two worlds of dream and reality and the conflict with the moving life has been very beautifully presented by Shahed Ali in his "Wings of Gabriel". 5 filmmakers from India decided to make a film about this story which was stirred in the international arena. Among them was – Bhuban-winning filmmaker Satyajit Roy. Also present were Ritmik Ghotak, Mrinal Sen, Jyotirmoy Roy and Nirpen Gangopadhyay. Shahed Ali's unpublished stories include - Beecher's Scholar, Ashra, Eya Akash Hawa, Chinnapatra, Laughter, Petition, Precious Than Gold, Tuchch, Apan Biday, Defamation, Postmortem etc. This multi-talented poet received the Bangla Academy Award for Short Stories in 1964, Bhasha Andolan Medal in 1981, Ekushey Medal in 1989, Islamic Foundation Award in 1986, Farrukh Smriti Award in 1997, Ragib-Rabeya Sahitya Award in 1998, Tamuddin-Majlis Mother Language Medal in 2000. and Jasas Gold Medal (posthumous), in 2003
Received numerous awards including Kishore Kantha Sahitya Award (posthumous). In 1980, he was the envoy of the Bangladesh government to the literature festival held in Malaysia
