One of the largest freshwater wetlands in Bangladesh is Haor Hakaluki, the largest in the Asian continent. Surrounded by Bhatera hills in the west and Patharia Madhav hills in the east, Hakaluki Haor is spread with 5 upazilas of Sylhet and Moulvibazar districts. Composed of more than 238 small and large rivers and 10 small and large rivers, Hakaluki Hao grows during the rainy season and becomes an area of about 18,000 hectares. More than half of the total aquatic plants of Bangladesh and important and endangered plants and animals of the country are found in this haor.
This is a potential area for the development of eco-friendly tourism in Hakaluki Hao. It is a wonderful haven of natural beauty in Hao.
