The Dhaka Times Desk With the help of JICA, the work of laying 64 km gas pipeline is going on. This 64 km long pipeline of 30 inch diameter is being laid from Dhanua to Elenga.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is supporting the expansion of this gas line. About 64 km long pipeline of 30 inch diameter is being laid from Dhanua to Elenga under the auspices of JICA. Due to which it will be possible to supply gas to the national grid against the growing demand of the country. Along with this, it will be possible to provide uninterrupted gas supply to existing and under construction power plants, fertilizer factories and other factories.

According to media sources, the total cost of implementing the project has been estimated at Tk 979 crore 17 lakh. Out of this, Zika is giving Tk 507 crore and 1 lakh. 464 crore 72 lakh taka from the government's own fund and 7 crore 44 lakh taka will be spent from the gas transmission company limited's own fund.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources told the media that the installation of 30-inch diameter high-pressure gas transmission pipeline up to 101 kilometers on the west bank of Yamuna Bridge-Nalka-Hatikumrul-Ishwardi-Bheramara is part of the main project. Due to lack of foreign assistance, it was not possible to complete the high pressure gas transmission pipeline from the western end of Bangabandhu Bridge to Nalka. That is why the project has been proposed to increase the supply of gas to the national grid by constructing a 64 km long pipeline of 30 inch diameter. If it is approved, the project will be implemented in Sreepur of Gazipur district, Bhaluka of Mymensingh district, Sakhipur of Tangail district and Kalihati and Syedabad, Sirajganj Sadar, Kamarkhand and Raiganj upazilas of Sirajganj district by June 2019.
