Italy-bound boat sinks in Mediterranean Sea: 200 dead

The Dhaka Times Desk 200 people died in the sinking of a boat bound for Italy in the Mediterranean Sea. All the victims were trying to immigrate to the southern European country of Italy.

Citing the United Nations Refugee Agency, the international media reported that a passenger motorized boat sank in the Mediterranean Sea, killing more than 200 people. It is believed that the victims were trying to immigrate to the southern European country of Italy. According to the International Migration Organization (IMO), the sunken boat left the Libyan coast on February 7. The boat capsized in the Mediterranean on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions.

Carlotta Sami, the Italian officer of the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, said that 203 people were buried in this incident. However, it is said that it has been possible to save 9 people. Among those rescued, 7 died, 22 are in critical condition. The rescuers suffered severe hypothermia after floating in extremely cold water for more than 18 hours. The identity of the rescued is yet to be found.
