The Dhaka Times Desk IS members kidnapped a Bangladeshi again in Libya. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the abduction.
The Islamic State (IS) has kidnapped another Bangladeshi citizen in Libya, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. The name of the abducted person is Md. Anwar Hossain (passport no. A3630754). The person is a resident of Noakhali.
Last Friday, another Bangladeshi citizen named Helal Uddin (passport number B-0156553) was abducted by militants from his home village of Jamalpur along with eight others while working in an oil field south of Sirte city in north central Libya.
In a press release on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, 'Anwar was abducted in the same incident on Friday. But because of the similarity of the name, the local authorities first thought he was a Sudanese citizen. Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that he is a Bangladeshi citizen.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Libya has assured Bangladesh that maximum efforts are being made to rescue these two Bangladeshi citizens.
It should be noted that on March 6, a group of militants supported by the Islamic State attacked the Al-Ghani oil field in the south of Sirat. At that time, the militants killed 11 security guards and kidnapped 9 foreign nationals working in the oil field, including two Bangladeshis. Immediately after this incident, another 21 Bangladeshis working in another nearby oil field were evacuated to a safe place.
