Thailand has said it will provide rescue aid to migrants at sea if a migrant boat is found. However, if someone enters Thai territory for medical or other reasons, they will face prosecution for illegal entry.

According to a report by the media Bangkok Post, the Thai authorities are sending navy ships to the Andaman Sea to provide relief to Bangladeshi and Myanmar Rohingya Muslims floating in the sea. The country's Prime Minister Prayuth Chan Ocha said that a budget of 4.9 billion baht in Thailand's local currency has been set for providing relief through 'floating naval bases' including police and doctors.

It has been reported that a huge ship of the Navy called 'HTMS Aung Thong' will be sent to the sea soon. The ship also has 750 tonnes of relief supplies, 390 crew, accommodation for patients, rooms for surgery (minor) and dental treatment.

"If a boat (of migrants) is found, the ship will then be brought in to assist them in their relief," General Ocha said. He also said, 'If the Kao are found sick or injured in Thai waters, they can be treated in hospitals in Thailand. But in this case they will be prosecuted for illegal entry. All decisions are theirs to make.'

Note that the United States has announced assistance in the search for boats seeking immigration in the Bay of Bengal. The country has informed that they will send aircraft to search for the boat. However, Ocha welcomed this announcement of the United States. He said that Thailand would welcome the cooperation of the United States or any other country in this region.
