According to NDTV news, the process of legalization of these illegal residents will start soon through the executive order of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the 'Assam Accord' signed in 1985 between the central government and the state government of Assam, there is no possibility of granting Indian citizenship to illegal immigrants. According to the terms of that agreement, refugees who left Bangladesh after 1971 were to be repatriated. But in India's national elections last year, Prime Minister Modi had proposed legalizing illegal immigrants from the two neighboring countries. If the BJP comes to power in this state, the Modi government was supposed to balance the initiative by revising the agreement. With which there has been a heat in the politics of that country.
On April 27, during a visit to Assam, BJP chief Amit Shah announced that Hindus coming from Bangladesh will be given citizenship if the BJP comes to power in the state.
It should be noted that the ruling party Congress is also in favor of such an attitude. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has repeatedly spoken in favor of granting citizenship to illegal Hindus from Bangladesh on humanitarian grounds.
