The Dhaka Times Desk As soon as the budget comes, the scope of taxes has started to increase. Customers will have to pay extra tax on mobile phone calls from now on!
In the budget of the coming financial year 2015-16, additional tax is being imposed on mobile phone calls. The government is going to impose additional tax on phone calls. In addition to the previous 15 percent Value Added Tax (Musak or VAT), a supplementary duty of 5 percent will now be payable. According to media reports, the issue of additional taxation will be mentioned in the Finance Act-2015 in the next budget.
It is known that through the Finance Act, 5 percent supplementary duty will be levied on the use of SIM/RIM card of mobile phones. Mobile subscribers usually get mobile calls, SMS, MMS and Internet browsing services through the use of SIM cards.
After presenting it in the budget and passing it, if this new law comes into force, the customers will be able to talk only 83 rupees if they recharge 100 rupees. Along with VAT, 5 percent supplementary duty will also be levied on SMS, MMS, internet browsing. Budget 2015-16 will be presented in the upcoming Parliament session.
