According to Reuters news, Facebook is no longer needed to use Messenger. Apart from Facebook users, any mobile phone users can use this messaging application.
According to media reports, Facebook authorities have said that work is underway to establish the Messenger application as a separate platform outside of Facebook, with the aim of reaching more people.
Earlier this year, Facebook authorities opened up the Messenger app to developers. At the time, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, 'He wants Messenger users to communicate directly with retailers, restaurants or other businesses.'
According to the latest update from Facebook, Messenger users will get an option when they launch the app which will say 'Not on Facebook?' Then you can sign up with name, phone number and photo.
More than 60 crore people are currently using the Messenger app. Recently Messenger app has added several new features like playing games and video calling.
Notably, the number of Facebook users in the world has exceeded 1.4 billion. Facebook has now become a popular mass medium of communication from youth to common people.
