If you are sick, you have to pay a hefty fine. Recently, such a strange rule was introduced by the mayor there, David Ziccinella. The BBC reported on a local news agency.

According to an announcement, if a resident of the village falls ill due to not going to the doctor on time, then he will have to pay extra tax. On the other hand, if he is healthy with regular health care, the local administration will give him reverse tax benefits. The mayor of Selia, Zikkinella, introduced such strange rules to keep the villagers healthy and prevent population decline. Mayor Zickinella is a physician himself.

The announcement said, "those who fall ill without taking preventive measures and put our entire village in danger, will have to pay additional taxes." The instructions issued by the mayor on the village council's website further stated that it is absolutely 'prohibited' to get sick within the village.

Note that in 1951 the total population of Selia village was 1400. Gradually it has reached 500. 60 percent of them are pensioners ie elderly. And so the mayor has basically taken such measures to prevent the trend of reducing the population of the village. He has provided all kinds of health facilities for the people of the village. Now he only wants, and that is that these health facilities can be used by the common people of the village.
