After India, it is believed that the electricity produced in Nepal can come to Bangladesh. GMR, one of India's private infrastructure companies, is setting up two hydropower plants in Nepal. Discussions are going on with several countries including Bangladesh to export electricity from there.

According to media reports citing GMR's annual report, initial talks have been held with Bangladesh government and India's electricity distribution authority for power export. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank own 10 percent of the hydropower plants in Nepal, the company said. Again they are lending most of the money for the project.

It is to be noted that GMR will set up 600 and 900 MW power plants in two rivers in Nepal. According to the annual report of GMR, as per the instructions of Nepal government, the work of laying the supply line is already progressing.
