Breaking News: Maximum 20 SIMs can be taken in one NID

The Dhaka Times Desk The government has taken the final decision to set a maximum limit of 20 mobile SIMs against a National Identity Card (NID).

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim gave this information to the media after a meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
It has been reported in the media that Sajib Wazed Joy, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Information and Communication Technology was also present in the 'review meeting on the implementation of the progress of the activities of the Telecommunication Department'.

Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said, 'A final decision has been taken on keeping a maximum of 20 SIMs against a National Identity Card (NID) or in the case of individuals.' He said that soon the telecommunication regulatory body BTRC will issue instructions in this regard.

Tarana Halim said, 'After starting SIM registration with biometric system, it will be known who has how many mobile SIMs. Customers will not be able to have more than 20 SIMs after a specified period. If anyone has more than 20 mobile SIMs it will be automatically stopped.'
