According to media reports, the Catholic leader of Sri Lanka thinks that it has no importance from the religious point of view. Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Ranjit made a statement calling on the priests of different churches not to bring Christmas trees inside the church.
A total of 2 million people live in Sri Lanka. Most of Sri Lanka's population is Buddhist. Still there are about 1.2 million Catholic Christians living in Sri Lanka.
