700-year-old minaret of the mosque saved because of Facebook!

The story of how this became possible is still alive today. A 700-year-old minaret is located in the center of the city of Andijan in eastern Uzbekistan. The city authorities planned to demolish this minaret and build a fountain. The Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev himself was behind this plan. Work is scheduled to begin in March.

But some local historians and conservationists learned about the plan. They also objected by writing a letter to Prime Minister Mirziyoyev against it. The United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has also expressed concern over plans to demolish the ancient minaret. This news was given by BBC Bangla.

A lot of writing started about the news on social media especially Facebook. After that, the Uzbek government was forced to sit and shake. The central government sent a commission to Andijan to seek the opinion of those who objected. Eventually, the fountain in place of the minaret was dropped from the city's development plan.

It should be noted that paying the price of people's will and unwillingness is very rare in Uzbekistan. And so many people were surprised at the change of plan in the face of public pressure.
