The Dhaka Times Desk Two militant leaders were killed in the 'gunfight', along with the accused in the police killing. Two suspected militant leaders were killed in a 'gunfight' in the capital's Hazaribagh. One of them is accused of murdering Gabtali police.
Kamal alias Hiran (28) and Abdullah alias Noman (35) were killed in the 'shooting' behind Shikdar Medical College on Wednesday midnight.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence Police Chanwar said that ASI Ibrahim Molla was accused in the murder of JMB's Dhaka divisional commander Hiron Gabtali. The other accused Noman is the 'national commander' of the militant organization.
He also said, 'These are the opposition parties of the current Amir Mufti Saidur of JMB. Hiron and Noman are followers of Sheikh Rahman and Banglabhai.'
SI Ansar Ali of Hazaribagh police station told the media that there was a gunfight between militants and DB police behind Shikdar Medical at midnight.
The intelligence officials said, 'This 'gunfight' started in the Hazaribagh area after an hour during the operation after arresting three suspected militants from Kamrangirchar around 10:30 pm. Two teams of DB were conducting operations against three militants. At around 11:30 pm, they chased him after seeing two men on a black motorcycle on suspicion. At this time, they entered Medi Dental Care Road No. 3 near Shikdar Medical. Leaving the motorcycle there, he went to the adjacent field and started firing. In response, the police also fired back.
After the shooting, Hiron and Noman were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from the spot where they were declared brought dead by the doctor on duty. Three members of the intelligence police were also injured in this 'gunfight'. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
It is to be noted that ASI Ibrahim was stabbed to death at the checkpoint in Gabtali of the capital on October 22 last year.
Within 13 days of Ibrahim's murder, another constable was similarly killed in an attack on a police check post in Dhaka's Ashulia. The police have been claiming that these militants are involved in some recent murders including police murders.
