The Dhaka Times Desk Zimbabwean players Elton Chigumbura and Hamilton Masakadza, who played for Sylhet Royals in the last edition of the BPL, have alleged that they are yet to receive the second installment of their dues. However, they received the first installment before the start of the event.
In BPL, the contact with the players was signed in this way, the 2nd installment will be received after the season ends and the 3rd installment will be paid within six months after the end of the season.
After the irregularities in the 2012 season, in the 2013 BPL season, BCB itself took responsibility to ensure that the money is fully paid to the players. But as of now, according to BPL Secretary Ismail Haider Mallick, BCB has fully paid the players of Dhaka Gladiators and Durant Rajshahi only.
Mallick said, “It is true that out of the seven franchises, except for two, the players of the remaining five franchises were not paid after 25% of the first installment. Our lawyers advised to wait till 15th May for legal notice. If we don't get the money by then, we will be forced to take legal action."
Masakadza was sold to Sylhet Royals for $30,000 in the auction. But he got only 25% of that money. He averaged 90 runs at 12.85 in 7 matches for Sylhet.
“I was very happy when I was sold in the auction, I enjoyed the experience of participating in the tournament, but the 2nd installment dollar is still owed. As a result, everything seems to be working now. For the past 10 weeks I have been waiting to receive the dollar owed,” said Masakadza.
Chigumbura, on the other hand, has grown impatient. But his performance for Sylhet in BPL was great. Along with an average of 44.33 runs with the bat, he also took 13 wickets.
Chigumbura said, “I hope the organizers will pay us the balance, like they paid the first installment. I have been waiting for more than 2 months. It's a real shame, but I have so many good memories throughout the tournament. But we love cricket, and it is also a source of income for us."
