The Dhaka Times Desk The cricket fans got another bad news along with the series defeat by losing the third and last ODI against Zimbabwe. Mushfiqur Rahim has announced to quit the captaincy after the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe. The journalists present and the cricket lovers of the country were surprised by his announcement. But BCB said they want to see Mushfiqur as the captain.
In the post-match press conference, vice-captain Mahmudullah answered the questions of reporters, but asked for a minute before the end of the conference, Mushfiq said, "I am leaving the captaincy after the next two T20 matches in this tour. Couldn't lead the team properly or run runs which I think is one of the reasons for our loss in this series." He also mentioned that there was some internal problem in the party, but left the venue without clarifying what it was.
In response to this incident, the BCB advised him to remain captain until the New Zealand series at home in October. BCB media committee president Jalal Yunus said, “This is very surprising news. He spoke to us shortly after his announcement. We think he is a good captain for the team. We will talk to him face to face about this when the team returns to the country on the 15th."
Yunus added, “We will verify the team manager's report to see if everyone else in the team helped him manage the team. Although his contract is up to this Zimbabwe tour, we will discuss it with him. It was an emotional decision that shows how passionate he is for the team."
Notably, last January Mushfiqur Rahim was given a captaincy contract by BCB till the tour of Zimbabwe. However, Mushfiqur wanted to extend the contract till the end of this year.
