The Dhaka Times Desk Russian President Vladimir Putin has been in power for a long time. However, there are many speculations in his country and outside the country about how long he will remain in power, or whether he will leave power at all.
The next presidential election will be held in Russia in 2018. In view of that election, a question is repeatedly circulating. And that is the fourth time that Putin will fight in that election to become the president? Or stand aside?
But if Putin really stands and wins the next election in 2018, his period of control in Russia will complete two centuries.
Vladimir Putin is still very popular in Russia, no matter how much criticism there is against him in the outside world or inside. According to an opinion poll last year i.e. 2015, his approval rating is more than 80 percent. However, there have been criticisms of the survey's methodology and acceptability.
While Putin's sheer popularity has been questioned, the truth is that it is hard to imagine Russia without him at the moment. Russia is now shaking the world by his hand.
There is a lot of writing about Putin in the media. It is said that there is no rival among Putin's associates in Russia so far. There is no basis for considering any of his family members as successors either.
Overall, if Putin stands in the next presidential election, if everything goes well, even the enemy should not have any doubts about his chances of victory.
And if for some reason Putin does not stand in the election or leaves power, then it is more likely that he will remain in control of the country in the existing structure.
Putin himself, however, has publicly stated that he will not be president for life. But the question is how long Putin will be in power?
According to some Russian analysts, Putin's regime may stumble by the middle of this year. On the other hand, former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt gave Putin a decade.
Putin may not stay in power indefinitely. But he doesn't seem to be moving anytime soon either. Moreover, there is currently no such situation in Russia that would lead to a revolution in which Putin can be ousted from power.
The Washington Post and Investopedia said with the above information, in a word, Putin's influence in the country is infinite. His sphere of power is all over the world. Even if he ever steps down, he is expected to remain a shadow in the Kremlin.
