The Dhaka Times Desk Iran is selling 32 metric tons of 'heavy water' to the US. This was confirmed by Iran's top level nuclear negotiator and one of the deputy foreign ministers, Abbas Araqchi.
Iranian English-language news channel Press TV quoted Abbas Araqchi as saying that Iran's Atomic Energy Agency and a US company had signed an agreement on the sale of heavy water. The agreement in this regard was reached before the meeting of the joint commission of 6 ethnic groups with Iran. He also said that the agreement was signed on the basis of 3 months of negotiations.
In this regard, a spokesperson of the US Department of Energy said that 32 metric tons of heavy water will be purchased from Iran at a cost of 8.6 million dollars. He also said that there are plans to sell this water to a national laboratory along with US commercial and research organizations.
Tehran will be able to sell UF-6 enriched uranium according to the 6-nation nuclear deal with Iran. In return, Iran will also be able to buy natural uranium known as yellowcake.
