Breaking News: Nizami's death sentence upheld

The Dhaka Times Desk The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has dismissed the review petition of war criminal Matiur Rahman Nizami's death sentence. Can only seek pardon from the President. The government will implement the penalty after the matter is settled.

That is why there is no legal obstacle to the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami's emir for crimes against humanity like murder, rape and intellectual genocide in 1971.
According to the rules, the 71-year-old Badar Nizami can now seek pardon from the President only by expressing remorse for his actions. After the settlement of this matter, the government will execute the sentence.

A four-member appellate bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha announced the one-word verdict today (Thursday). At 11:30 am, sitting in the courtroom, the Chief Justice just said, 'Dismissed'.

The other three members of the bench are Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice Hasan Faiz Siddiqui.

This bench of the Appellate Division announced the judgment of Nizami's appeal on January 6. It upheld the death sentence handed down by the International Criminal Tribunal on 29 October 2014.

It should be noted that Jamaat-e-Islami's Amir Motiul Rahman Nizami was the president of Islami Chhatra Sangh, the student organization of this party. And he was also the head of the Al Badr force formed to support the Pakistani forces. It was under his planning, direction and leadership that Albadr Bahini executed the blueprint for the killing of intellectuals - this case has been proved.
