The Dhaka Times Desk A truly strange village has been found. Even in the village where there is no electricity, almost all the houses have TV, fridge, washing machine, mixer, etc.
But the surprising thing is that there is no electricity in that village to run these electric devices! There was never electricity in that village.
Maybe the question may come then why these devices were bought? The answer is that they were never actually bought. These machines are given as gifts along with the vote application (VET).
Such a strange incident occurred in two strange villages, Sembukkarai and Thumanure, located about 20 km west of Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu state, India. About 150 families live in two villages. Every time before the vote, the residents of the two villages began to accumulate electrical goods! Local leaders confirmed their vote bank by sending these. But the interesting thing is that the residents of those two villages do not have the means to operate the electronics even after bringing them home.
It is not about today, since the independence of India in 1947 till today, even in all these years, the electricity lamp has not been lit in the villages of Sembukkarai and Thumanure; No day! In other words, there is no facility of electricity in these two villages.
It is known that every year when the election time comes, the political leaders in the two villages carry various types of electronic goods to the villagers in the hope of getting votes. The list of vets includes various types of electronics like TV, fridge, washing machine. This strange tradition has been going on in these two remote villages since independence in 1947. Most of the more than 150 residents of these two villages are daily laborers or farmers.
In this regard, the local residents said that the leader of any political party in Tamil Nadu, DMK or AIADMK, brought vets to the polls and satisfied the villagers during the polls. Confirmed their vote bank. After getting Vet, the people of the village did not hypocrisy and gave their votes to the leaders of certain political parties. But what happens if you vote does not do any real work. Once the polls are over, those leaders are never seen again in the remote villages. Many leaders have promised to provide electricity but it has not been implemented till date.
And so, for so many years, mountains of electronics products have accumulated in the houses of Sembukkarai and Thumanure villages. A demand of the residents over the years was to be given electricity. It has not happened until today!
