The original name of Netrakona is Kaliganj, the area of Netrakona is 2810 square kilometers. In 1974 it was upgraded to a police station. Then on 17 January 1984 it was declared as a district. Netrakona district has 10 upazilas and 86 unions.
The soil, air and environment of this place have awakened the literary culture among the people of this region.
Many prominent people were born here. Among them, Justice Sahabuddin Ahmed, Elahi Newaz Khan, Comrade Monisingh, Dr. Humayun Ahmed, poet Nirmalendu Guna, poet Helal Hafiz, Khalek Dad Chowdhury are notable.
