The Dhaka Times Desk The group claimed that the Afghan teenager who attacked a train in southern Germany recently with an ax and knife was an Islamic State (IS) 'fighter'.
Citing the IS-run Amaq news agency, the website 'Site', which monitors the online activities of militant organizations, said, "This attack was carried out as part of the target of the anti-IS coalition countries." This is the first time IS has claimed responsibility for an attack in Germany.
According to media reports, this incident happened last Monday night in Bujburg, Bavaria, Germany. Four people were injured. However, the young attacker was shot dead by the police. It is learned that the four injured are members of a Hong Kong family. The condition of 2 of them is critical.
According to Babaria Interior Minister Joasim Harman, the attacker is 17 years old. This Afghan refugee lived in a nearby town. Quoting officials, the BBC said that the attack was carried out on the passengers on the train at around 9:30 pm local time.
A police spokesman said a teenager armed with an ax and a knife attacked the passengers shortly after the train arrived at Buzburg. At one point the attacker got off the train and ran away. At that time the police chased him. Later, the attacker was shot dead by the police.
German media quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the teenager could be heard shouting 'Allahu Akbar' during the attack. Not only that, the country's authorities said, the teenager also had an IS flag painted on his arm.
