The Dhaka Times Desk A 36-year-old imam named Ershad Badruddin is in great trouble with his wife. His wife threatened to commit suicide if he did not cut his beard!

According to a report published in India Times, the Imam's wife Sahana lived in Pilkhua area of Hapur village in India. She loved clean shaven men like Bollywood heroes Shah Rukh and Salman.

Imam Ershad said that his wife went against his opinion and chatted with strangers all the time. Now his wife has given him a condition that if he does not cut his beard then he will commit suicide. He also contacted a counselor to ensure that his wife did not take any bad steps. The reason is that if he committed suicide, the blame would fall on Ershad.

After getting no solution, he approached the police and filed a case. There he mentioned that, 'I am an Imam. Teaching prayers in the mosque is my main responsibility. I follow Muslim religion properly. I got married to Sahana in 2001. We also have 4 children. A few days after marriage, Sahana told me not to keep my beard. She likes clean shaven men like Salman and Shah Rukh Khan. He also has a smartphone. He talks to the other person day and night.'

Ershad also said that he explained a lot to his wife that an imam must have a beard. But his wife is always stubborn and strict. He repeatedly told his wife to use the phone less. Because if he is using mobile all the time then it will have bad effect on their children too.

He also said, 'I am going absolutely crazy with his behavior. After I scolded him a few days ago, he cried and said that he would poison our children and kill himself.'

His wife Sahana insisted on western wear during the last Eid. He then threatened to kill her again if she refused. The day after Eid, Sahana locked herself in a room. Then Ershad peeked through the window and saw Sahana trying to tie a rope around her neck with a fan. Then he was rescued by breaking the door.

According to media reports, Ershad's case is currently under the jurisdiction of village magistrate Dinesh Chandra. However, this incident has created a sensation in the area.
