Journey to Europe: 3034 refugees died in 7 months!

The Dhaka Times Desk The year 2016 is considered to be the most terrible year for refugees going to Europe from different countries of the world including the Middle East. 3034 refugees died in 7 months on the journey to Europe this year!

The year 2016 was even worse than 2015 for European travel. Last year, 1 thousand 970 people died while crossing the Mediterranean Sea in the first 7 months. But this year (year 2016) 3 thousand 34 people died at the same time.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a total of 3,771 people died in 2015 while crossing the Mediterranean Sea. The number of refugee deaths in the same period this year is 54 percent higher than in the first seven months of last year.

Despite repeated warnings by analysts, 2016 is expected to set a new record for refugee deaths, according to media reports. Calls by human rights organizations for safe passage have been repeatedly ignored. Niels Fresen, director of the US Immigration Clinic, said, 'This year is on track to surpass the total number of refugee deaths in 2015.'

Niels Fresen also said, 'I never expected such a crisis. It should be resolved as soon as possible. This has happened due to strict border control policies and neglect of humanitarian aspects.' In general, the unsafe passage of refugees has further called into question the immigration policies of Western countries.

Fresen said, 'The influence of the extreme right in Europe and the United States on the issue of refugee security is making the immigration policies of Western countries increasingly strict. The EU-Turkey talks on the refugee issue ended due to the tough stance of Hungary and the countries of the western part of the European Union. This has affected refugee policy.
