The Dhaka Times Desk The helicopter that crashed in Cox's Bazar was flying on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route without authorization that day. The helicopter carrying cricketer Shakib crashed on the way back to Cox's Bazar.
According to media reports, another helicopter of this company has permission to operate on that route. The news media reported this news citing Civil Aviation Authority sources.
According to the news, Meghna Aviation, a private air transport company, has two helicopters. One of them operates on the Dhaka-Barisal route and the other on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route.
On that day, the helicopter carrying Shakib was supposed to return after dropping the passengers from Cox's Bazar, but the helicopter broke the rules and reached Inani Beach with Shakib. The helicopter met with an accident while returning from there with passengers.
A top civil aviation official told the media on condition of anonymity that the helicopter of the transport company carrying Shakib is not allowed to ply on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route.
Basically the helicopter of one route has been operated on another route by breaking the rules. Even beyond the main route Cox's Bazar, the copter delivers passengers to Inani Beach, he said. The officer sees the matter as a serious crime.
A 3-member investigation team is continuing its work to find out the cause of the accident.
An officer of the investigation team told the media that initially it was known that the helicopter met with an accident while taking a selfie.
It is to be noted that a helicopter carrying Shakib crashed in the Reju Canal area of Jaliapalong Union of Ukhia on the way back after delivering him to Hotel Sea Pearl in Inani last Friday morning. One person was killed and several others were injured.
