India's threat to stop water in Pakistan!

The Dhaka Times Desk India has threatened to cancel the Indus agreement and stop the river water in Pakistan! India is showing tough attitude towards Pakistan on Kashmir issue.

Indian news media reported that the Indus water could be cut off as a pretext for a terrorist attack on a military base in Uri, Kashmir.

খবরে বলা হয়েছে, জওহরলাল নেহরুর আমলে হওয়া সিন্ধু পানিবণ্টন চুক্তি নিয়ে আলোচনার জন্য সোমবার বৈঠক ডাকেনভারতে প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদি। যার নির্যাস মূলত, সিন্ধু নিয়ে ভারত-পাক ‘পানিযুদ্ধ’-এর আবহ।

It should be noted that the Indus Water Sharing Agreement was signed in Karachi in 1960 between the then Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the then Pakistani Prime Minister Ayub Khan. Sapsindus divides the waters of 6 rivers of northern India between India and Pakistan.

Bipasha, Irrawaddy, Shatdru are under the control of India. Indus, Chandrabhaga and Jhelum or Bista are controlled by Pakistan.

It is known that the main flow of Pakistan-controlled Sindh, Chandrabhaga and Jhelum is in India. On the other hand, only 20 percent of the Indus River is used by India. But Pakistan is highly dependent on these 3 rivers for agriculture. Therefore, Pakistan is afraid, if the water of those 3 rivers flowing into India is stopped, a large part of Pakistan will fall into drought.
