BNP leader Hannan Shah passed away

The Dhaka Times Desk BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Brigadier General (retd) ASM Hannan Shah (77) left the country of no return.

সিঙ্গাপুরের একটি হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসাধীন থাকা অবস্থায় আজ (মঙ্গলবার) ভোরে তিনি ইন্তেকাল করেছেন (ইন্না লিল্লাহি ওয়া ….. রাজিউন)।

BNP Chairperson's press wing member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed this to the media citing his younger son Shah Rezanur Hannan who is staying in Singapore.

He has informed that the process of bringing Hannan Shah's body to Bangladesh from Singapore has started.

Hannan Shah was suffering from heart disease for a long time. He was recently admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka after suffering from a heart attack. When the condition worsened, he was taken to Singapore by air ambulance. There he was admitted to Raffles Heart Center.

Last September 13 at noon, the doctor of the hospital. A group of doctors led by Alvin Ng performed a successful heart surgery on Hannan Shah. However, this veteran leader breathed his last after 13 days. Apart from Shah Rezanur, his younger daughter Sharmin Hannan is in Singapore.

Hannan Shah retired from the army as a Brigadier General. After that he became active in BNP politics. Hannan Shah was elected Member of Parliament from Kapasia in Gazipur. During the BNP government in 1991, he served as Jute Minister.

Condolences of BNP Chairperson and General Secretary

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of this senior leader of BNP.

They expressed their grief in two separate condolence messages. In the condolence message, he prayed for the peace of the departed soul and expressed his deepest condolences to his bereaved family.

Nothing is known yet about when and where Hannan Shah will be buried.
