There are places in the world that cannot be conquered even with modern technology. One such island is Sentinel Island. This mysterious island is located in the Bay of Bengal. According to historians, the island was formed about 60 thousand years ago. The area of this island is 72 square kilometers.
Although the island belongs to India on paper, India has no jurisdiction over the island. The Indian government could not find out much about the island despite repeated attempts. More specifically, they could not enter the island. The only reason for this is the inhabitants living on the island. There is no accurate estimate of how many people live on the island.
In 2001, an official attempt was made to obtain information about the island. But that effort remains incomplete. The incomplete statistics mention only 39 inhabitants on the island. The inhabitants of Sentinel Island are called the Sentinel population. They are a hunter-gatherer people far from the light of civilization. It is not known what language they speak. It is believed that their language is similar to the Andamanese languages.
The inhabitants of this island are very violent and primitive minded. Many stories of their cruelty are also heard. It is said that in 2006, two fishermen entered the island by mistake. The islanders killed them. Their bodies were seen from the helicopter sent to rescue the fishermen. Even the islanders started shooting arrows at the helicopters! Due to which the helicopter was forced to return without rescuing the fishermen.
Attempts have been made to contact the islanders for many days. In 1967, the first Indian authorities began trying to establish contact with the islanders. The effort was started at that time under the leadership of TN Pandit, Director General of Tribal Management of India. Various gifts were left at various times on the island's shores as an attempt to establish contact. For example, food-clothes etc.
Even that did not change their violent mentality. If they saw a boat near the island or a helicopter above, they would throw weapons like arrows, stones or spears. Around 1990, some outsiders lost their lives in a clash with one such group, the "Jarwa", living in the Middle Andaman Islands.
After that incident, the Indian government stopped trying to establish contact with the residents of Sentinel Island. The Indian government has also imposed strict restrictions on the entry of people from the outside world within a radius of at least 3 miles.
About a century before that incident. In the 1880s, attempts were made to contact the inhabitants of the island during the rule of the East India Company. 6 residents of Sebar Island were also picked up. Four of them were children. Two adults died shortly after being brought off the island. After keeping the rest of the residents for a while, they were left on the island without any information.
It is known that the island was damaged in the tsunami of 2004. Within a few days, the residents once again overcame the shock of the tsunami. A few days after the tsunami, a helicopter saw the residents of the island busy with their normal activities.
Although the island is currently under the government of India, it has been decided to keep the lifestyle of the islanders free from outside influence. Although the island is not banned, the Indian government has issued special warnings about entering the island. In short, no one wants to trample the inhabitants of the island. The Indian government itself does not want to deprive them of their right to live. So today the inhabitants of this mysterious island are as they are. The people of the world remained in the dark about this island.
